Two Lovers
03:09
|
|||
You asked me to stay I said okay
and we both knew what we would do
time was a changin the river was a waitin
so we did what two bodies can do
yeah we did what two bodies can do.
All I feel is warm as my eyes survey contours
of your naked body hovering over me
like some beautiful storm
I went away took a job out of state
it seemed like the right thing to do
It’s moments like this you look back and wish
that you did what you wanted to do
and you said what you wanted to
Try the best that you can to be happy with where your at
but I carry your ghost everywhere I go
like some beautiful storm.
The heart is a river and it’s filled with love
and long reached its banks
if you stay here you’ll know only fear
at the bottom of the great salt lake
Head into the storm and the country’s soft contour
I can see your eyes as you held me that night
and we did what two lovers can do

Pale Moonlight
03:44
|
|||
We went down to the water last night
swimming naked in the pale moonlight
we were young and so alive in the
cool black water our bodies collide
I saw the light
I feel the gravel pull between my toes
as we walk from the water to put on our clothes
Hand in hand we ran through the woods
two bikes parked on the side of the road
We ride Into the morning light
I saw the light
These sort of things you never understand
until you find yourself leaning on a hospital bed.
The love you held just the other day
is slipping from her body into the gray.
You try to hold onto your light
Oh God you try to hold onto your light
Madison wait for me I am damned but you are free to swim
the lengths of Montana’s banks
in the river the bares your name
In the river that bares your name
In the river that bares your name
We went down to the water last night
swimming naked in the pale moonlight
we were young and so alive in the
cool black water our bodies collide

Paisley Dress
03:36
|
|||
I went out walking late last night
hear you were lonely could use a women by your side.
Along the sidewalk through the hollow lights
I came to you in the black of night
In the tall grass chest to chest
I lay on you in my paisley dress
I went out walking late last night
I heard you were lonely could use a women by your side
I feel your breath against my cheek
even though know your heart no longer beats
I kiss the stone between our lips
love of my life 1969 - 2006
I went out walking late last night
I heard you were lonely could use a women by your side

Camping
03:13
|
|||
I went camping with my brother and his wife
in the red rock canyon we sat by the fire
and we talked about who we were
and the people we’re trying to be
the watchman silhouettes the sky
a thousand stars and clouds pass by
I wonder is he just a rock
or could these rocks come alive
We talked about who we were
and the people we’re trying to be
We laughed about the children we were
and the people we’re trying to be
I am not a nihilist
I believe there’s meaning in the moments we exist
I step to the edge of these cliffs
and I realize I want a love like this
We talk about the people we were
and the people we’re trying to be
We talk about the parents we love
wishing they would stop waving their guns
Teenagers are laughing in the trees
if you could go back, which one would you be?
The ones making love in their tent
or the one two afraid to fall asleep.

Delta Dream
03:32
|
|||
Baby I feel like I am starting to find routine
in the rhythm of the song you sing
I hear your voice cut through the noise.
In the night I sit with my lonely heart and pray
that these demons walk away
and leave us in peace in your delta dream.
Dead ends find me
in the labyrinth of my mind
your words remind me
that the heart is a beacon of light
on my darkest night
A child he sits alone at night
trying to make amends
with the monsters under his bed
While the evil things in his closet sing.
The morning sun soon will rise
to the starboard side of his head
to the place where he found rest
to sail easy on your delta dream.

Seeds
03:10
|
|||
Lady I am sorry for the way I talked to you
saying those hurtful words that were not true.
I should never bear my teeth at you.
Lover I am sorry for the way I treated you
saying I doubted the work that you do.
I would be so lonely without you.
I can see the dirt on your knees
and the sun has streaked your cheeks
and the tears in your eyes when the
seeds of our garden just won’t grow.
Man I know that this work is burdensome
and the fruit of it’s labor has yet to ripen
but this is what you and were made to do.
We could run off and get other jobs
sell real estate or start a restaurant
but I know you will always dream in a field
where two lovers sing.

Fisherman
04:32
|
|||
How in the hell did I ever get here?
Sitting on this stone.
The bridge is blown from shore to shore
I can hear her yell across the gorge.
"Boy leave it be your never going to know.
What's done is done, so you best be heading home."
If that fall won't kill me
If that fall won't kill me
I fear that death would find me
sitting hear.
My body broke and my blood went cold
as I crashed into the steam.
I floated by with a smile on face
for the fall hadn't taken me.
A tragedy is what they had seen
said those fishing in the stream.
"A broken heart meant to take his life."
is what those fisherman surmised.
If that fall won't kill me
If that fall won't kill me
I fear that death would find me
sitting hear.

Lazy Day
04:54
|
|||
Sprinklers click on an empty street
the hottest day of summer begins to recede.
The shade was cool beneath a maple tree
I hid from the sun and lover I dream.
As I recall, it was a lazy day
the house was empty they were all away.
The phone rang out from inside the house
like warning bell my heart begin to pound
I heard your voice on the other line
“baby I’m in town do you mind if I stop by?”
It had been two years before that night
you walked on through my door just like old times
I didn’t say a word, I just kissed you hard
and you peeled away my shirt over these auburn arms.

Molly
03:31
|
|||
You said I was your man but I stopped by your house
and there another man was poking around.
I walked right in and I punched him in the chin
said "I'm the only rooster in this house."
You those big eyes and try to apologize
for spreading your love so thin.
On your bed we sit while you confess your sin
and we'll try fidelity once again.
Your love a deadly bate.
Molly I just hate.
That I can't seem to quite you.
So I'll sing this shitty song
about how you done me wrong
and you're probably going to do it again.
I walked up to the mountains looking for a sign
and the good lord He spoke to me.
He said "you go my son and you take that there woman
and you give her a diamond ring."
I walked back down the hill with a twinkle in my eye
looking for my bride to be
but much to my dismay ol Molly was also praying
screamin "oh maw god" with some guy in a pick up truck.
Your love a deadly bate.
Molly I just hate.
That I can't seem to quite you.
So I'll sing this shitty song
about how you done me wrong
and you're probably going to do it again.
Whats a man to do when his lovers gone astray
and he's a middle aged writer in LA?
He should probably add some whiskey
to this cliche country tune
and drink it down until he forgets you.
But the truth is a shame I can't drink fermented grains
makes my face swell up like a peach.
So I'll smoke a little pot and be nostalgic for what I am not
and I'll strum my guitar a little slower.
Your love a deadly bate.
Molly I just hate.
That I can't seem to quite you.
So I'll sing this shitty song
about how you done me wrong
and you're probably going to do it again.

Wedding Day
03:13
|
|||
You could pack it up
drive your old truck beyond the
pavement and tangled freeways
past the sprawl of LA
Find some real work
in the mountains
where the seasons change
in the aspens above salt lake
But the women you love
said she’s going to stay
But the women you love
said she’s going to stay
Until her wedding day
Until her wedding day
You got beat’n up
chasing what you love
trying to make it pay
did you forget what you had to say?
with a crooked smile
you stare into her eyes
“lady lets get out of this place
start a new and we can change our name.”
But the women you love
said she’s going to stay
But the women you love
said she’s going to stay
